The following is an Electronic Portfolio (E-Portfolio) for Ashley Luna. It is the capstone project for a Master of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. It consists of an introduction, Statement of Professional Philosophy, fourteen core competencies (A-N), Conclusion, and Affirmation.
The bulk of my e-portfolio examines the information professional field through relevant literature, courses, and experiences that are in my statement of professional philosophy and core competencies. My statement of professional philosophy addresses my conception of librarianship and examines the economic, educational and social well-being of communities as it relates to my career and to the information professional field. The structure of each of my core competencies includes an introduction, discussion about each core competency and a discussion about its importance to me and the information professional field. For each core competency, I also discuss my educational and work experience as it relates to each competency. I then provide evidentiary examples to showcase how my coursework supplements my mastery of each core competency and my ability to perform each competency in future situations. These include discussions, essays, projects, and other assignments. I then conclude each competency with my reflections, future goals, a list of references and links to websites and downloadable assignments.
To prepare for the E-portfolio, the process required early in the program to be organized and to plan ahead. From the beginning of Fall 2012, looking at the e-portfolio handbook allowed me to plan which items and assignments I needed to save. For all my courses, I saved green sheets, discussions, coursework, readings, assignments, and projects and organized them into a system of folders on my computer for each course. During the creation of my E-portfolio, this allowed me to easily retrieve items and information as needed. Deciding which assignments best exemplified my skills and competencies was a challenging process given the amount of coursework at my disposal. Reviewing my coursework and outlining my competencies allowed me to make selections that exemplified my knowledge of the information professional field.
In the end, I feel I highlighted and included the most important work and accomplishments in my E-portfolio. The E-portfolio was an excellent tool in recognizing my strengths, accomplishments, and goals for the development of my professional career. The following is the culmination of my work at San Jose State University in the Masters of Library and Information Sciences.
